How To Switch Into Digital Work With No Degree: A 90 Day Plan

October 26, 2026 · 4 min read

You want to move into digital work. But you have no degree in it. And no experience.

Good news: many digital roles care more about what you can show than where you studied.

Bad news: nobody can promise you a job in 90 days. Anyone who does is selling something.

What you can do in 90 days is build real proof. This plan shows how.

The big idea

Employers and clients trust proof.

So your 90 days are not for “studying”. They are for building a skill, three pieces of work and a short list of people to show them to.

The 90 day map

Days Goal Output
1 to 14 Choose and prepare One chosen skill, a schedule and strong basics
15 to 45 Learn the core Three small practice projects
46 to 75 Build proof Three portfolio pieces, feedback and a certificate if you take a course
76 to 90 Go to market A profile, a CV and 20 real applications or conversations

Days 1 to 14: Choose and prepare

  • Pick one skill. Use our guide if you are unsure. (add the link to article 1)
  • Check your computer basics with the 20 skill checklist. (add the link to article 10)
  • Block 1 to 2 hours a day in your calendar. Same time every day.
  • Join a community, so you have people to ask.

Days 15 to 45: Learn the core

  • Follow a structured course or a clear learning path. Do not jump between random videos.
  • Finish three small projects. Small is fine. Finished is better than perfect.
  • Every Sunday, spend 15 minutes writing what you learned and what confused you.
  • Ask for help the same day you get stuck.

Days 46 to 75: Build proof

  • Turn your best work into three portfolio pieces.
  • For each piece, write three lines: the problem, what you did, and what changed.
  • Ask two people for honest feedback and improve the pieces.
  • If you took a course, save your certificate and its verification link.
  • Offer to do one small free project for a real person, and ask for a short testimonial. Keep it small and clear.

Days 76 to 90: Go to market

  • Update your profile and CV around the skill, not around your old job title.
  • Make a list of 20 places to contact: companies, agencies, local businesses, or job posts.
  • Send tailored messages. Do not copy and paste the same one 20 times.
  • Practice explaining your three pieces out loud in 2 minutes each.
  • Follow up politely after a week.

What roles to look for

Look for roles and tasks that match a beginner who has proof:

  • Assistant or junior roles
  • Internships and apprenticeships
  • Small freelance tasks
  • Volunteer projects that can become references

If you fall behind

It happens to everyone.

  • Do not start over. Pick up where you stopped.
  • Shrink the daily time, not the goal.
  • Never miss two days in a row.
  • Ask in the community. Someone has been where you are.

A 5 question weekly check

  • Did I practice on most days this week?
  • Did I finish something, not only start it?
  • Did I show my work to someone?
  • Did I ask for help when I was stuck?
  • Do I know what I will do first next week?

Your next step

Quick answers

Do I need a degree?

  • For many digital roles, no. For some, yes. Check the job posts for the role you want.

Can I do this while working full time?

  • Yes, if you protect 1 to 2 hours a day. It may take longer than 90 days, and that is fine.

Will I have a job at day 90?

  • Nobody can promise that. You will have a skill, proof of it, and a real search underway.
