This policy explains what information LAskill collects when you use our website, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who we are and what this policy covers
LAskill Training Center is a digital skills training centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. In this policy, we, us and our mean LAskill Training Center, and our website is www.LAskill.org.
This policy covers everything you do on the website: reading the blog, taking the free practice quizzes, creating an account, buying and studying a course, and joining the Community forum. We handle personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the website.
What information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the website and our courses. It falls into these groups.
- Account details. Your first name, last name, email address and password. Your password is stored in a protected form, so we cannot read it.
- Order details. When you buy a course, your billing name, address, phone number, email address and what you bought. Payments are handled by our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number.
- Learning details. Your course enrolments, lesson progress, quiz and assignment results, certificates, and any questions you ask on a lesson.
- Practice quiz details. The topic you chose, your answers, your score, and the email address you enter to see your score.
- Community details. Your display name and the posts and replies you write in the forum.
- Messages. Anything you send us by email, WhatsApp or through the site.
- Technical details. Your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages you visit. Our security software also keeps a short record of blocked requests and failed sign in attempts, including the IP address.
How and why we use it
We use your information for these reasons, and each one rests on a lawful ground.
- Account and sign in. We create your account so you can use courses and the Community. Lawful ground: to carry out our agreement with you.
- Orders, enrolment and certificates. We process your order, enrol you and issue certificates so you receive what you paid for. Lawful ground: to carry out our agreement with you.
- Quiz scores. We show your score and email you a copy, because you asked for it. Lawful ground: your consent, given when you enter your email.
- Reminders, new article and forum emails. We send these to help you keep learning and stay informed. Lawful ground: our legitimate interest. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Keeping the site safe. We block bots, fake emails and password guessing to protect you and the site. Lawful ground: our legitimate interest.
- Accounting and order records. We keep these to meet tax and legal duties. Lawful ground: a legal duty.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make automatic decisions that affect you.
Free practice quizzes and your email
You can take our practice quizzes without an account. To see your score and the reason behind every answer, we ask for your email address. We use it to show your result and to email you a copy of your score.
We also keep your email address on a list so that we can send you offers, such as a course linked to the topic you practised. Every one of these emails has an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, you can still take quizzes and see your score, but we will not email you.
Your quiz answers and scores are kept for 90 days and then deleted. Your email address stays on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We do not accept temporary or fake email addresses, and we limit how often one connection can start quizzes, to keep the quizzes fair and the site safe.
The Community forum
Anything you write in the Community forum can be read by other people, and by anyone who visits the page. Please do not post your phone number, address, passwords, OTP codes or other private details there. If you want a post removed, contact us and we will take it down.
The forum can email you when someone replies to a topic you follow, and when a new article is published. You can turn these emails off at any time with the unsubscribe link in the email, or from the forum page.
Cookies and similar tools
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser. We use only the ones the site needs to work properly:
- Sign in and account cookies keep you signed in and protect your account.
- Cart and checkout cookies remember what is in your cart.
- Saved choices in your browser, such as your light or dark mode choice, and a short note that lets a quiz you have just finished be shown again if the page reloads.
Some pages load content from other companies, and those companies may set their own cookies or see your IP address. Examples are the font we use, YouTube videos inside lessons, and the WhatsApp chat button. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, such as signing in and checkout, may then stop working.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information. We share it only with people and companies that help us run the website, and only as much as they need:
- Payment providers, to take and confirm your payment.
- Hosting, email and security services, to keep the website online, send our emails and protect it from attacks.
- Video and font services, such as YouTube and Google, which load lesson videos and the site font.
- Authorities, when the law requires us to, or when we must protect our rights or the safety of others.
Some of these services are outside Nigeria, so your information may be handled in other countries. When that happens, we use providers that protect it properly. Your forum posts are public, as explained above.
How long we keep information
- Account and learning details: kept as long as your account is open, so you keep your progress and certificates.
- Order records: kept as long as needed for accounting and legal duties.
- Practice quiz answers and scores: kept for 90 days.
- Quiz email list: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Forum posts: kept until you ask us to remove them, or we remove them for breaking the forum rules.
- Security records: kept for a short time, only as long as needed to protect the site.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that could identify you.
How we protect your information
We use security software that blocks bots, fake emails and password guessing, we store passwords in a protected form, and we keep paid lessons and quiz answers locked until you are allowed to see them. Only the people who need your information to do their work can reach it.
No website can be made perfectly safe. You can help by choosing a strong password, using a different password for each important account, never sharing your password or OTP codes, and signing out on shared computers. If you think someone has used your account, tell us at once.
Your rights and choices
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you,
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date,
- ask us to delete your information, or to stop using it,
- object to us using your information, including for emails,
- take back a consent you gave earlier, and
- receive your information in a form you can move to someone else.
To unsubscribe from our emails, use the link at the bottom of any reminder, forum or quiz email. Emails that confirm an order or send a certificate are not optional, because you need them.
To use any other right, email us at the address below and tell us what you want. We may need to check who you are first. We will answer within a reasonable time. If you are not happy with our answer, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
If you are under 18, please use the website only with the permission and guidance of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without that permission. If you believe a child has given us information without permission, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy and how to contact us
We may update this policy when our website or the law changes. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If the change is important, we will also tell you by email or with a notice on the website.
